Yin Yang Story at the Moth
I did it. I went up on stage and told a story at the Moth. When I saw the theme, in this case it was “Yin Yang,” I had little trouble coming up with a story, which surprised me. I usually hem and haw over the story then chicken out. But not this time.
This time I was determined, even got my name in the hat second or third (out of about 25). Then I panicked!
Heart racing. Cold sweat. Jittery legs. It all happened while I waited to be called.
When I heard my name I was actually relived.
I told my story as best I could, but did not win. It was a tough competition. In fact I came in 8th place (out of 10). Looking back on this I’m trying to figure out what my story lacked and the only thing I can think of is it didn’t have enough ‘me.’ By this I mean my story didn’t go deep enough into the emotion I had felt. If it had I wonder if the audience would have connected deeper with it (and me). But instead I kept it on a superficial level.
I’m not disappointed with this story but can now tackle different themes with more purpose.
